Anime

Something I realized was that during the time I've had this, I have not made one, single post about anime.  The reason is pretty simple, I haven't seen a new (to me) anime in some time.  So I decided to post my basic tastes by ranking the anime I've seen.  Now, this is a measure of how much I enjoyed the anime, not necessarily how good it was.  Working from memory...

I'll add movies at some point.  I'm sure there are series that I am missing, they'll be added as I think of it.

Upper Tier-

Rah-Xephon- I largely liked the characters, and initially, I didn't know where it was going.  I had never heard the comparisons to Evangelion (and I hadn't watched the whole of Evangelion at the time anyway).  The Xephon was actually a pretty lame mecha (as in not cool), but that wasn't the important part anyway.  It was always obvious what the outcome every fight was going to be anyway.

Revolutionary Girl Utena- Despite serious flaws this gets up here.  When it was actually 'on' it was amazing.  It had some very surreal moments that intrigued me.  Sure, the repeated animation was annoying, and the second portion of the show was pointless (The Black Rose Saga), but overall, I really enjoyed the show.

Mobile Suit Gundam: 8th MS Team-  The mobile suits actually felt somewhat like actual military weapons.  I also liked that the mobile suits had to worry about things like fuel.  Decent characters, some cool moments, and a solid, if old and predictable story.  Sure, the whole, 'we're on opposite sides of the war but love each other' thing has been done alot, but that is because when it is done well it works.

Infinite Ryvius- There was some stuff that wasn't really logical.  But the show was almost completely about the characters.  Some of them were cool, some weren't.  One thing I disliked immensely is that one of my favorite characters was intelligent and competent at the beginning of the show and that competency disappeared for an extended period of time.  Still a very good show overall...the main character is only slightly less of a loser than the main character of Evangelion, but at least in this show some of the surrounding characters were worthwhile.

 Middle Tier-

Full Metal Panic- Some of the show is hilarious.  Some of it is pretty serious.  Both parts are done reasonably well.  Solid show.

Slayers and Slayers Next- Just fun shows.  Lina and Zelgadis are awesome, and the show is pretty funny.

Martian Successor Nadesico- I liked it quite a bit initially.  And then that slowly faded.  Many of the jokes are funny.  But I hated the huge part that Gekiganger played.  It was dumb.  Ruri is one of my absolute favorite characters of all time though.  So seldom do you see an anime character actually realize how utterly stupid everyone around them is.

Witch Hunter Robin- Probably would have rated higher if it weren't for one particular thing that made no sense and I hated (but was vital to the show).  Overall though, it is a pretty entertaining show.

Outlaw Star- Another show that is pretty fun.  The grappler ships are a really stupid concept (I'm going to punch your space ship with mine?  What the hell kind of space combat is that?),  but the Caster is cool.  The way that Jim and Aisha connect always struck me as a strong point of the show.  And Suzuka is awesome.  Several things near the end of the show bother me.  (What is the big deal with Gene being a redheaded man with a caster?)

Excel Saga- Funny at points, downright hilarious at points, but it also had a lot of stuff that was just weird.

Cowboy Bebop- (Gasp!) I know, there is no way this belongs down here, but the thing is there were only three (or four) episodes that I really liked.  Those episodes are amazing (and would belong in the top tier), but the majority of the show is very mediocre.

Bottom Tier-

Gasaraki- I nearly put this at the end of the middle tier.  After all, I did enjoy it to an extent, but it is severely flawed.  And the ending is really bad.  In retrospect, I can't really identify what I liked about it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion- Really pathetic.  The main character is a horrid, whiny loser.  The ending is awful, and the show in general failed pretty badly at being entertaining.
